Obituary of Gladys Louise Tucker

Gladys Louise Dial Tucker, 94, died Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on March 29, 1924 in Columbia, South Carolina and was the daughter to the late George and Martha Campbell Dial. Mrs. Tucker was in the first graduating class of Dreher High School and earned a B.A. degree from Columbia College in 1945. Mrs. Tucker taught for 36 years in Lexington School District 2 until her retirement in 1983. She was a charter member and past president of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of the honorary education society Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Tucker loved teaching often remarked that if not paid, she would have taught for free. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Shandon and later in West Columbia and Lexington where she taught Bible school and Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack C. Tucker. She is survived by her two sons, Ronald D. Tucker and Jack C. Tucker, Jr. (Lennie); two grandsons, Tyler A. Tucker (Heather) and Bryson D. Tucker (Sally); five great-grandchildren, Anna, Ryan, Jack, Will and Lee; niece, Martha Dixon Morris; and many loving grand nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the mausoleum chapel at Woodridge Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072 on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 12 PM until 1 PM. Funeral services will follow the family visitation. Interment will immediately follow the mausoleum service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of South Carolina, 1101 Harbor Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169 or to a church or charity of one's choice.
