Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Ray Truett

Anthony “Tony” Ray Truett, 74, of West Columbia, SC, husband of Linda Diane Boyles Truett, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2021.

Born December 5, 1946, he was the son of the late William King and Nihla Lael Truett. Tony entered the U.S. Army where he served from 1966-1969 during the Vietnam War. He was in the 11th Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade RVN, MACV. He received multiple recognitions for his service, including, the National Defense, Good Conduct, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign medals. Following his military service, he attended Limestone College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Tony grew up in and was active at West Hickory Baptist Church, Hickory, N.C. and Grace Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC. He was active at Fellowship Baptist Church in Lexington SC since 1980 and held many leadership positions at each church. He coached youth sports when his son was playing. Tony enjoyed Lenoir-Rhyne University and USC athletics and was a big football and NASCAR fan. Tony was a loving husband, Devoted Father and Grandfather. He loved giving his grandchildren rides in his wheelchair.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Amanda Truett; grandchildren, Tristan King Truett and Tobias Abraham Truett; a sister, Janice Truett Campbell; close family members, Evelyn Lail, Jeanne Diaz, Joia Seagraves, Thom Tara and Coltrane Lail and Kathy and Steve Hammonds.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an uncle and aunt, Ernest Lail and Betty Sue Nanney.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, July 20th at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Reverends Erik Estep and Daniel Geddings officiating. The burial will take place later that day at 3 PM in Woodlawn Cemetery in Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 19th from 4 to 6 PM at Woodridge Funeral Home Mausoleum Chapel.
