Obituary of Rev. Tony Joe Garrett, Sr.

OBITUARY – Reverend Tony J. Garrett, Sr. – Gaston – A graveside Homegoing service for Rev. Tony J. Garrett, Sr., 62, of Gaston, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 18, 2021 at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 Old Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC, 29170. Reverend David Hammons will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.

Reverend Garrett passed away June 15, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Joe Otto Garrett and Nita Ann Clark Garrett. Tony Garrett was a loving son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother whose passion in life was his family and his ministry in spreading God’s word. Of all of the titles that he earned, his favorite title was that of Daddy and “Papa”.

Tony pastored at three churches; Swansea Church of God, Earle Church of God and East Camden Church of God.  Tony also served as a Youth Pastor in his younger days, and is remembered fondly by many who he pastored years ago. He retired in 2009, and devoted his time to his grandchildren and wife. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, current events and USC Gamecocks sports. His three sons were his pride and joy. Tony had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

Reverend Garrett is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Debora Matthews Garrett; son, Tony Joe Garrett, Jr., of Gaston, Jarrod N. Garrett (Christina) of Swansea, Jordan M. Garrett (Jennifer) of Gaston; grandchildren, Chloe Garrett, Breanna Burnette, Mattison Garrett, Greyson Garrett; uncle, Jim Clark (Mary) of Colorado.  In addition to his parents, Reverend Garrett was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Garrett.
