Maxcy King

Obituary of Maxcy Wayne King

Maxcy Wayne King passed away April 12, 2021 quietly in his home. Born December 4, 1953, in Florence, SC, he was the son of Bill and Margaret King of Columbia, SC. Maxcy, better known as “Max” by his friends and family, had a love for nature, hiking, animals, and most of all music. One of his fulfillments in life was working with outpatient alcohol and drug abuse teens at Charter Rivers. Later in life, he owned his own furniture installation company that was run with his son, Jamie King, from which he retired.

His favorite place to enjoy being in nature and hiking was Congaree Swamp. He enjoyed long hikes as well as canoeing and kayaking there. Max was an avid guitar collector, and immensely enjoyed playing as well as learning new songs. No matter if it were an electric or acoustic guitar, he enjoyed playing both. Max became active in Native American Rituals; one he really enjoyed was participating in sweat lodges.

Max is survived by his wife, Helen King, of West Columbia; his son, James Derek King, of West Columbia; daughter,  Abby Rebecca King, of West Columbia; brother, William Dennis King; sister-in-law, Daisy King; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dedicated canine best friend, Elwood.

Max touched many lives with his readiness to listen to problems and help his friends through them, playing music with friends, and enjoying a good cup of coffee with them as well. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

A graveside memorial Service for Maxcy will be held at Scotch Cemetery in Bethune, SC at a date to be determined. The date and time will be updated on this website when plans are finalized.
