OBITUARY – William “Bill” C. Hammond, Jr. – Lexington – A Celebration of Life service for William “Bill” C. Hammond, Jr., 69, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Lakeside Gazebo at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Mr. Wayne Sharpe will officiate. The family asks that guests please dress in USC Gamecock colors.

Bill Hammond, Jr. passed away January 13, 2021, surrounded by his family. Born in Camden, SC, he was a son of Ethel Jordan Vereen, and the late William C. Hammond, Sr. Bill was an avid golfer, and a lifelong USC Gamecock fan. Family meant the most to Bill, and he could bring out a smile in anyone. He truly never met a stranger, and will be remembered for his generosity. Bill, while he was a great teacher, was an even better listener. He was loved by, and will be missed by all he knew. Bill was an active member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, and was a retired educator, and formerly the Head of Maintenance from Lexington School District Two.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Hammond; daughters, Stephanie H. Harmon (Will) of Kershaw, SC, Amy Gantt (Jason) of Hendersonville, TN, Kristen Harmon (fiancé, Chris Rice) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Abbey and Charlie Gantt, Drake Rice; sisters, Sandra Hughes (Sam) of Summerville, SC, Felicia Beaudry (Keith) of Springhill, Florida. Bill is also survived by a large and loving extended family. In addition to his father and step-father (John Vereen), Bill was predeceased by his brother, David Hammond, and a sister, Debbie Hammond.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Lexington Medical Center for their loving care of Bill and his family during his illness.
