Our sincere condolences to the Robinson family. My wife and I first met Maurice “chop chop” at Twin Creeks RV park. We discovered that we both had served in Vietnam and began swapping stories. I started calling Maurice”chop chop” because of a story he told me during his time in Korea. He said a large rat ran across the floor and he yelled “kill that rat”. He then heard the mama-San yell, “no,no, number one chop chop”. Maurice said that he later found out that rats were considered a delicacy in Korea. That story set my nickname for Maurice . I will miss exchanging our stories and I will always remember him as “chop chop”. Our love to you my friend, my RV neighbor, and my fellow soldier. May you rest in peace.

I kept wondering exactly how long I have known Maurice Robinson. After reading the obituary and reconfirming with Mrs. Joyce, I would say 15 yrs. Mrs. Joyce said that they have owned their Blairsville home for 15yrs. Maurice was 65 at the time, so I would have been 25….
Friendship began with Maurice approximately 15yrs ago. I was working at my small window tinting business when Maurice came in. He was needing his Subaru forester tinted. I tell this story often. Ill never forget that day. He opened up his hatch, pulled out a camp/folding chair, took it to the front of the shop and sat there and talked with me the entire time that I worked on his car. To date, he is the only customer that had their own chair. We have been friends ever since.
We have had countless lunches and dinners with Maurice and Joyce. I remember one time they had their grandson Zen with them. We all went to have lunch at comfort café just off the square in Blairsville. Zen must have been only 5 or 6 at the time. Now I have seen photos of him graduating. Time has flown by for sure. You see, every time Maurice and Joyce come to the mountains, they always stop by the shop to say hey. There is definitely something special about Maurice and Joyce. Every time, I mean every time, they always asked about me, my family, my work. They truly cared about me . I know that if I ever needed them, I could have called them. When we got together we would talk about motorcycles , cars, bluegrass, Shady Grove, travels, camping, and the military. Maurice was passionate about those things. He loved riding his road king. He told me about other motorcycles he had in the past. Lol, he even told me about his neighbors motorcycles and cars. I know we would have had a great time, but I never got the chance to ride with him. He told me to use amsoil, keep good tires, and my battery charged. He loved bluegrass music as they often took in a show in the square courthouse. He loved Shady Grove Methodist church located off of Owltown road here in Blairsville. As far as I know they attended every time they were in town. He told me stories of him and Joyce traveling around the country in their campers when they were younger. He told me a little bit about his army days. Maurice and my dad could relate on that subject. In fact, this past November, which would be his last trip to the mountains, he sat and talked with my dad for a good while at the shop. Dad told me a couple of days later, “I could talk to that guy all day”. During their last visit, the shop was running ahead of schedule. I got to sit and talk with them for almost an hour! My son Barrett, was playing basketball, and Maurice and Joyce made it to one of his games. I was so excited that they came that night.
Maurice is a special man .I wish I could have met him sooner in life. He was gifted in that without trying, he could make you smile, laugh, and be thankful. Even though it was a short amount of time, I am thankful, so thankful to have gotten to know Maurice Robinson.

I have never spent a lot of time with Maurice but each time he came to the mountains in Georgia we enjoyed talking about our experiences in the military and the time spent in Vietnam. I gave Maurice the nickname of “chop-chop” which came from a story he shared from his time in Korea. it is one story I will never forget just as I will never forget Maurice. I will miss sharing stories but I will forever have those memories.
RIP Chop-chop

There are many memories and stories to share about my Dad. I hope these photos provide everyone with a glimpse into his life -- his passion for this country, the military, his motorcycles and his family. I love you, Dad!

Robbie you will be forever in our hearts. The day we left South Carolina our thoughts about leaving the ones we met while we lived there was hard to accept. Bernie will always remember the trip you two took the mountains and staying at the campground with you. You brought me back a T shirt from the Indian store. We will always thank you for your service but more so for being the best friend we got to know in South Carolina. Love Bernie and Tiny Leblanc
