Obituary of Wallace C. Stokes

OBITUARY – Wallace C. Stokes – Irmo – Services for Wallace C. Stokes, 88, of Irmo, will be private. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements. Wallace Stokes passed away at his home on January 4, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Hoyt S. Stokes and Cleo Blackwell Stokes.  Mr. Stokes was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War while stationed in Germany.  He grew up on Columbia Avenue, and was a graduate of Columbia High School.  He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked for 43 years as Yardmaster.  He was known there by his fellow Employees as “Biddy”.  Mr. Stokes was a member of the Boyleston Masonic Lodge No. 123, a member of the Scottish Rite, and Shriner with Jamil Temple, where he held various positions. Wallace had a quick witty sense of humor, and was always making people laugh.  He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, and was a lifelong Gamecock. He dearly loved his family, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Wallace is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Nancy D. Stokes; daughter, Pam Taylor (Eric) of Greenwood, SC; granddaughters, Erin Taylor and Lindsay Taylor; niece, Kim Chimenti (Michael) of Charlotte, NC and great niece Carley Chimenti of Atlanta, Ga. In addition to his parents, Wallace was predeceased by his twin brother, Willard K. Stokes, and his first wife, Betty W. Stokes.
