Obituary of Dorothy Louise Taylor Johnstone

Dorothy Louise Taylor Johnstone

Dorothy Louise Taylor Johnstone was called to her Heavenly home on October 7, 2020. She was born on July 23, 1933 in Columbia, South Carolina.  Her parents were the late John William Taylor and Annie Mosely Taylor.  She had two children: Her estranged daughter, Brenda Lovell McClure, of Batesburg-Leesville; and Sharon Johnstone Wolfe, with whom she lived in Lexington, SC and who was her sole caretaker, with assistance from Amedisys Hospice, during her battle with cancer.

Dorothy was blessed with four grandchildren: Brenda and Britt Lovell gave her Stacy Evans (Brian) & Lindsay Snyder (Stephen) and Sharon and Walter Wolfe gave her Amanda Sites (Brent) and Stephanie Taylor Wolfe.  She also had 6 great-grandchildren: Lindsay and Eduardo Valencia (Natalie, Arianna, Brittany, and Gabriela) and Amanda and Brent Sites (Shelby and Ryder).  She was the grandchildren’s loving “Mama Dot”, and will be so very missed by all. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and watching her great-grandchildren play.  She has one living brother, Leroy Taylor of West Columbia, SC and one living sister, Violet Taylor Branham of Ridgeway, SC, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Jessie Taylor of Columbia, SC and Jack Taylor of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Edna Taylor Butts of Columbia, SC and Gladys Taylor Kellner of Spartanburg, SC.

Dorothy worked at Tapp’s Department Store in her younger years.  She retired from Southern Bell, where she worked as a telephone operator and in the Comptroller’s Department.  She was a Member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church in Lexington, SC.  She loved her church family, and loved her many visits from Pastor Kenneth Prill during her illness, as well as visits from other church family and the weekly cards from her church family.
