Obituary of Elizabeth Sullivan

Elizabeth “Betty” Sullivan, 80, of West Columbia, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 1, 2020. She was born in Calabria, Italy on August 23, 1939, to the late John and Maria Foderaro. 

 

Betty was a devout member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, SC, for 30 years. She was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary, and served in many capacities. She was well known for her seat at the "Wisdom Table", following mass with her fellow beloved parishioners; receiving and giving advice to others. Betty loved her church family, and was truly blessed by the many friends she made over the years. 

 

She worked for Lexington School District Two for 12 years at Pineview Elementary and Riverbank Elementary. She assisted faculty, staff and students. She always had a kind word, listening ear, and hugs to give daily. She made many wonderful friends, and truly loved her job. 

 

She was previously employed at Sunset Mini Storage in West Columbia, where she managed the facility for 13 years. 

 

Betty was married for 33 years to her beloved husband, Bill, prior to his death in 1992. They were blessed to have two sons and a daughter. Bill was her one and only true love, and she remained and lived close to her children throughout her life. She had 3 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 3 great-grandsons. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband; William James Sullivan, Sr.; her son, William James Sullivan Jr.; her parents, John and Maria Foderaro; and her brother, Joseph Foderaro. 

 

Betty is survived by her loving son, Kurt Anthony Sullivan, of Columbia, SC; her loving daughter, Doreen Elizabeth Sullivan Sizemore, and son-in-law, Stacey Allan Sizemore of Columbia, SC; her sister, Maria Mungo, of Huntington, Long Island; her granddaughters, Brittany (Jonathan) Pollina of Rock Hill, SC, Kaitlyn Paige Sullivan of Summerville, SC; her grandsons, Brandon William Sullivan Sizemore of Columbia, SC, Bryce Allen Sizemore of Columbia, SC, William Taylor (Regan) Sullivan of Summerville, SC; three great-grandsons, Truitt and Emmitt Sullivan, and William Pollina. 

 

A Funeral Mass for Elizabeth Sullivan will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Father Peter Sousa will celebrate the Mass. The church respectfully asks all Mass attendees to bring and wear a mask for their safety. Burial in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington,  will follow the Mass. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
