Obituary of John Earl Wilkie

John Earl “Jack” Wilkie, 72, of Lexington, went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2020.

Jack was born in McCormick, SC, a son of the late James R. Wilkie and Nina B. Wilkie.

Jack worked in the agricultural chemical business with Ciba-Geigy AG before opening Wilkie Real Estate and Development in Lexington, South Carolina.

Jack attended Lexington Presbyterian Church. Jack enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Jack’s love for gardening fulfilled his desire to give to others, as he enjoyed sharing his vegetables with all his neighbors and friends around Lexington. Jack knew how to cultivate and grow a beautiful garden after his many years of working on the family farm in Plum Branch, South Carolina.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joan R. Wilkie of Lexington, SC; his son, Jason C. Wilkie (Anna) of Lexington, SC; his daughter, Jennifer Wilkie Askins (Ben) and his four grandchildren, Andrew Wilkie, Matthew Wilkie, Wofford Askins, and Baker Askins; brothers, Lee Wilkie of Ninety Six, SC, Pat Wilkie of Plum Branch, SC, Steve Wilkie of Anderson, SC, and Ted Wilkie of Branson, MO. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brother, James Russell “Russ” Wilkie of Plum Branch, SC. Jack will be greatly missed by his family who loved and respected him.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staffs at Compassionate Care Hospice and McLeod Home Health Care Service, both of Lexington, SC for their loving care and support during his final days.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Lexington Presbyterian Church, 246 Barr Road, Lexington SC, with a memorial service following at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Presbyterian Church.
