Obituary of James Edward Beeftink

James Edward “Jim” Beeftink, age 84, of Chapin, SC passed away December 25, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be recited on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL at 11:30 AM; with visitation from 10:45 to 11:30 AM. Interment of cremated remains at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL will be private.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union St., Columbia, SC. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.

Jim, born in Chicago, was a son of the late Leonard Beeftink and Mary Flynn Beeftink. Jim was devout in his Catholic faith, and had the kindest heart. His passions and pastimes included family gatherings, cooking, travel and opera. Jim was an alumnus of St. Ambrose University, Davenport IA, and served in the US Army National Guard.

Jim had retired as a Community Relations Director in home health care. He was a loyal friend; a loving son, life partner, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his life partner of 41 years, Gary Parish; brother, Leonard Beeftink of Glenview, IL; sister, Mary Ann Strunc of Greenville, NC; 6 nieces and 3 nephews; 15 great nieces, 10 great nephews, 3 great-great nieces and 6 great-great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cenacle Sisters, 513 Fullerton Parkway, Chicago, IL 60614-6428, or to the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the staffs of Prisma Health Parkridge and Baptist Hospitals for their tender care of Jim during his illness.
