Obituary of Joseph A. Myers

OBITUARY – Joseph A. “Joe” Myers – COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph A. “Joe” Myers, 57, of Columbia, will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2019, at St. Peter's Catholic Basilica, 1529 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC, 29201. Father Gary Linsky will celebrate the Mass. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.

Joe Myers passed away November 13, 2019. Born in Killeen, Texas, he was a son of Lulu Jeffries, and was reared by his adoptive parents, the late Clifford L. Myers and Stella Lucille Benfield Myers. Joe graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science in 1987. He retired as a School Library Media Specialist after 30 years of service in various SC public schools, and then worked as a Librarian at Allen University in Columbia. He was a dedicated member of South Carolina Association of School Librarians, where he served as President for the 2010-2011 school year.

Joe was a long time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Basilica, where he sang in the choir. Joe and Robert were active members of the Rainbowlers Bowling League, and members of the Carolina Bear Lodge. As a dedicated collector of antique appliances, Joe was a proud member of the Automatic Washer organization, which is dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of antique appliances.  Joe enjoyed his life in Columbia, and was active in many organizations and activities. Joe was universally loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by his loving husband of 10 years, Robert Curtis Jennings, Jr.; brother, Phillip “Flip” Myers, and family; half-brothers, Joe Jeffries, and his family, Matthew Jeffries, and his family, Luke Jeffries, and his family;  father and mother in law, Robert C. Jennings, Sr., and Louise Jennings, and a large and loving extended family.
