Obituary of Lloyd Calvin Simpson, Jr.

Lloyd Calvin Simpson, Jr., 66, of Columbia, SC, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in his home, after a long battle with health related issues suffered since August, 2016.

Lloyd’s family will greet friends for a Celebration of Life gathering at 2:00 pm, Sunday November 3, 2019 at East Lake Community Church, 10057 Broad River Rd., Irmo, SC 29063.  Pastor Ray Washington will officiate.  A private burial will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington. 

Lloyd was born January 12, 1953 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Lloyd Calvin Simpson Sr. and Lila Foxworth Simpson.  He attended Irmo High School, and played baseball and basketball growing up. On March 12, 1988, he married his surviving wife, Elaine Steadman Simpson, of Bamberg. Lloyd was a hard worker and provider for his family.  He retired from Carolina Eastman after 30+ years of service.

If you knew Lloyd, you knew he was determined to live his life the way he wanted.  Lloyd loved his family and Gamecock football.  He spent many weekends tailgating at the Carolina games with family and friends in his younger years.  As he got older, he enjoyed having friends over to watch the game and have a beer.  A “good day” would be spent riding around making sure everyone was okay.  He loved Facetiming and spending time with his grandchildren. Lloyd never knew a stranger, and was kind and generous to all who knew him. 

Lloyd was a proud father and grandfather.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, daughter, Calli Simpson Knight (Johnathan Knight), and son, Kyle Simpson and his fiancée, Sarah Howell; three grandchildren, Jada, Blakely, and Asher Knight; four surviving brothers and sisters, Nell Seel, Bobby Simpson, Sandy Corder, Randy Simpson (Denise Simpson); and many nieces and nephews.
