Obituary of Anthony C. Patrone

OBITUARY – Anthony C. “Tony” Patrone – Funeral services for Anthony C. Patrone, 95, of Cayce, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, January 14, 2019 at Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington, which is assisting the family.

Tony Patrone passed away January 7, 2019. Born in Niles, Ohio, he was a son of the late Louis and Angeline Russo Patrone. Tony graduated from McKinley High School in Niles, and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he played football as a single wing center and middle linebacker, and was a member of the Letterman’s Club. He received his commission in the US Navy Reserve, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Shipley Bay, and participated in the Battle for Okinawa. Tony returned to Columbia in 1948, and established Patrone’s Cleaners and Laundry. In 1964, he established the University Corner, located at Main and Devine streets, where he opened the well-known “Varsity Billiards”, that he operated for 45 years.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of  more than 64 years, Marcella; two sons, Anthony J. Patrone and Patrick M. Patrone; brother, Dominic Patrone (Alice) of Fontana, CA. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by four sisters, Marianne Sabino, Rosalyn Rotunno, Connie Russo, Clara Boyd; four brothers, Andrew Patrone, Lawrence Patrone, Michael Patrone, Joseph Patrone.
