John Wyman Monts

OBITUARY – John Wyman Monts – Gaston – A Memorial Service for John Wyman Monts, 74, of Gaston, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. Pastor Fred Gray and Mr. Jakie Kyzer will officiate. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. John Monts passed away August 5, 2021 at his home. Born in Prosperity, SC, he was a son of the late George Cecil Monts and Frances Laura Long Monts. John loved hunting and fishing, especially catfish and snapping turtles. He was a life-time member of the VFW, and had served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. John loved his classic country music and carpentry work. His family was most important to him, however. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Anita Brayboy Monts; son, Shannon Dewayne Monts (Anita) of New Jersey; daughters, Desirae M. Holman (Bill) of Cameron, SC, Jamie E. Perkins (Allen) of Florida; son, John Paul Monts (Rachel) of Lexington; step-son, Brock D. Brayboy (Virginia) of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Connie M. Doberass of West Columbia; brother, Don Monts of Columbia. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, George M. Monts. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Oncology and Amedysis Hospice for their compassionate care.
